		<description>As a public librarian I can appreciate that civilians don't "get" Dewey, however, many don't get much of anything. The beauty of Dewey is that nobody has to get it, you just have to be able to count to 9! If you can't do that you probably can't read anyway (again not shocking). When items are arranged by Dewey, at least the librarian can locate the exact spot on the shelf the item is supposed to occupy. 

It's going to be interesting the see the results of this experiment. Now, Darien, CT isn't exactly a typical municipality either, their population is exceptionally wealthy and well educated, so what works here might not elsewhere.</description>

You're not the only one I've heard that from.  I think we have to remember that there is professional-grade subject grouping and consumer-grade subject grouping.  The latter is far more relevant to our users who generally don't "get" Dewey and shouldn't be expected to.</description>
