IL2005: A look back

I’d never been to an Internet Librarian before so I really had no idea what to expect. I must say that it was a very good experience overall. It certainly was a thrill to see many of the bloggers I follow and listen to some of them speak. I also met some really friendly and smart people.

Most of the sessions I attended were very worthwhile, and I’m not going to go over them because there were many other bloggers there doing a much better job of that than I could. I will say, though, that at times it seemed like we were being force-fed a lot of blog. I understand that doing it bloggy-style is really sweet, but I think there was a moderate amount of preaching to the chorus on the topic.

There was an emphasis on tagging and social software which I think was great. I just want to see how it can become a little more useful to patrons in a practical way. I’d love to see our own PictureAnnArbor utilize it in some way.

Also, Google received a lot of attention (and rightly so). I don’t think our jobs are in jeopardy of being grepped anytime soon though.

Would I go again? I sure would and I truly hope I have the opportunity to.
